Summer School on Political Epistemology

27 – 31 July 2020, held virtually

The virtual Summer School on Political Epistemology, held from 27–31 July 2020, will allow students and postdoctoral researchers to meet top scholars and discuss key methods in normative political theory.

Organised in association with Keele University and the Jagiellonian University Krakow, the Summer School will feature insightful lectures delivered by leading academics and offer the participants opportunities to present and reflect on their work with relevance to issues in political epistemology.

Issues to be considered during the Summer School may include: the role of knowledge and justification in politics; the problem of deep disagreement; the role of force in a just society; epistemic injustice; deliberative democracy and its problems; the role of ideal theory in politically relevant epistemic processes; constructivist and contractualist accounts of justice; the role of sincerity and trust in politics; the epistemic value of electoral processes; the use of ignorance in political processes, including populism, propaganda and manipulation; climate change and its political implications; uncertainty and freedom of speech; international politics and the possibility of global justice.

This event is part of a series of Summer Schools on methods in normative political theory/philosophy, previously organised in 2014–2016 and 2018. For more details, visit the Summer School website.
