The School of Global and Public Affairs at IE University in Madrid is hosting the ECPR Standing Group on Latin American Politics Summer School on the theme Political Behaviour in Latin America.
The event takes place on the IE Segovia campus, in the historic Monastery of Santa Cruz la Real. The first Dominican monastery in Spain, Santa Cruz la Real enjoyed close ties to the Reyes Católicos, Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand II, making it a site of outstanding historical importance for students of Latin America.
Taught by renowned Instructors, the School will tackle theoretical and methodological debates on individual-level political behaviour and activity in Latin America today. Participants will present their own research, followed by an open discussion with the Instructors and fellow scholars.
Topics under discussion will include political culture across the region, with a focus on support and trust of institutions and democracy, and the implications for voting and elections.
We'll also talk about the advancement of women's representation and its impact on attitudes and political behaviour, micro-level explanation of populism, the context of institutional design, and the political behaviour of our elites.
Participants will learn about (mis)information, social media and fake news, all of which wield a growing influence on political behaviour in Latin America.
