2017 Joint Sessions of Workshops, Nottingham

The 2017 Joint Sessions of Workshops were held at the University of Nottingham, the first time since 2003 that the Joint Sessions have taken place in the United Kingdom.  Twenty two Workshops took place covering a varying range of subjects; the full list, a synopsis of the Workshops and the Papers presented can be found in the Academic Programme

The Workshops were of course complemented with an interesting plenary programme which included the Stein Rokkan lecture.  This important lecture was this year given by Margaret Levi (Stanford University) on the subject 'Limits of Legitimacy'.

Three ECPR prizes were also awarded during the official welcome: the 2016 Jean Blondel PhD Prize to Philipp Köker (Canterbury Christ Church University), the 2016 Rudolf Wildemann Prize to Viviane Gravey (Queen's University Belfast) and the 2016 Hans Daalder Prize to Svenja Krauss (Humboldt Univesrity Berlin) - congratulations to all of them.

The Joint Sessions of Workshops always provide a great chance for the huge group of international scholars to come together and meet in person to discuss their ideas and to network and make new contacts. Hopefully aiding them to further their careers. This feeling of togetherness and community was also reflected in social media - Twitter was a particular medium of sharing their experiences of the event.  The feed from the Nottingham hashtag is below.

We have a lot to thank the University of Nottingham for as the host of this year's event. So the ECPR would like to thank Mathew Humphrey, Fernando Casal Bertoa and Kyriaki Nanou amongst others for their hard work assisting in the organisation of the event.
