Political Data Yearbook (PDY) contains comprehensive and authoritative data and analysis of electoral results, national referenda, changes in government, and institutional reforms for 37 OECD countries, within and outside the EU. From January 2026, PDY will be published by Cambridge University Press.

PDYinteractive (PDYi) is a unique data source building on the PDY content. PDYi provides the data in a fully searchable and downloadable format, making it an invaluable tool to those working in this area of the profession.

The current editorial team comprises:

  • Raul Gomez University of Liverpool
  • Michelangelo Vercesi University of Naples Federico II
  • Thomas Mustillo University of Notre Dame

We are now seeking a replacement for Michelangelo. This is a short-term position starting 1 April 2026 and ending 31 December 2027.

About the role

This is a short-term position (1 April 2026 – 31 December 2027).

The work of the three editors is split. Two take responsibility for the narrative and analysis, and one for the database and development of PDYinteractive. This role involves responsibility for the narrative and analysis, specifically:

  • Co-operation between editors to ensure integration between text and data in authors’ contributions.
  • Co-operation between all three editors and the publisher’s production team, to ensure timely delivery of PDY and production of PDYi.
  • Co-writing the editors’ introduction to each volume, highlighting common trends and important issues.
  • Dealing with authors’ queries and working with authors to ensure any revisions are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Checking the accuracy and consistency of the tables and data for each country submission.
  • Working with authors to resolve any data ambiguities or inconsistencies in the reports.
  • Transferring data from Excel files into tables and formatting all accepted articles, before sending to production.
  • Collaboration with the Editorial Coordinator and ECPR marketing team to develop and deliver activities to increase the impact, readership and use of PDY and PDYi.

Applicant background

You must be affiliated with an ECPR Member institution or have written commitment from your institution to join upon appointment.

ECPR is seeking a political scientist with a strong research background in political parties and governments in Europe and advanced industrial democracies. Our ideal candidate would have some experience of the international publishing industry, either as an editor or author. We also expect a high proficiency in written English if it is not your first language.

We welcome applications from all sections of the political science community. ECPR encourages applicants irrespective of their ethnicity, gender, marital status, age, disability, religion or belief, or sexual orientation.

To support the editors in their role, ECPR provides an annual stipend, and waives registration fees for the annual ECPR General Conference during their term. Alongside this, each ECPR journal has a dedicated Editorial Coordinator (EC) to support the editors, ensure the smooth running of the editorial process, manage social media, and work with marketing staff to promote the journal throughout the year. The EC is also the key point of contact between ECPR and the publisher.

The editorial team works collaboratively with ECPR and the publisher on the overall PDY strategy. We expect editors to attend meetings in person and online, to report on the journal.

How to apply

Submit your application by 31 January 2026 to Editorial Coordinator Charlie Brown at pdy@ecpr.eu.
