Transmission of Anti-Gender Radicalism within the Right-Wing Complex of the Visegrad Countries

Anti-gender radicalism, characterized by opposition to gender equality, LGBTQ+ rights, and protection against gender-based violence, has gained significant traction within right-wing political entities. This paper examines the proliferation and transmission of anti-gender views within right-wing parties, movements, and communities in the V4 countries (Hungary, Poland, Czechia, and Slovakia) in the past ten years. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, we investigate both vertical (from political leaders to broader social movements) and horizontal (through networks among V4 countries) transmission mechanisms. By analyzing political statements, media content, social media posts, and in-depth interviews, we aim to identify key actors, narratives, and strategies that facilitate the spread of anti-gender ideologies. Our findings will elucidate how right-wing populist movements leverage anti-gender rhetoric, while fostering intra- and international alliances. We also aim for a deeper understanding of the specific socio-political dynamics underpinning the rise of anti-gender movements in the V4 region.
