Abstract

Artificial intelligence has increasing political significance. Consider for example the famous Cambridge Analytica case or the current discussion about chatbots. This paper explores the political impact of AI through the lens of the concept of epistemic agency and democracy. I argue that AI risks to damage epistemic agency through manipulation, polarization, and automation, and that we need a regulatory framework to (re-)structure the epistemic landscape created by AI and other digital technologies.
