In the light of the expansion of renewable energies in Germany many studies have been conducted that analyze the impact of the expansion of renewable energies and in particular windpower on tourism. In Southern Germany it can be observed that there are no or very few installations of wind power plants in tourism regions although these regions are, based on the natural preconditions, potentially suitable for the installation of wind power plants. In this context the question arises, whether the installation of wind energy does not take place in those regions because of touristic interests. Therefore, this study examines the impact of tourism on the deployment of wind energy. Thereby the focus is on how different regional actors use instruments of regional planning in order to influence the expansion of wind energy in tourism regions in Bavaria due to the preservation of the cultural landscape and the spatial interests of tourism.
