Conflict Resolution in Local Climate Governance

Abstract

Given the envisioned transitions in energy supply and transportation systems, Europe experiences a controversial debate about the future needs with respect to energy related infrastructures (wind parks, solar parks, energy grit etc.): Furthermore, the siting of new infrastructure and energy facilities such as wind parks or solar parks has been subject of numerous conflicts and citizen protest movements. In particular, citizens in local areas where these facilities are planned are often divided between a favorable attitude towards the desired energy transitions (National and European goals) and skepticism about the concrete facility planned for their community. The panel invites papers addressing these local conflicts, providing either analytic studies about the motivation and reasons for these conflicts to emerge or investigations about procedures and attempts for inclusive governance and conflict resolution.
