Abstract

Art, activism, and justice are deeply intertwined, with artistic approaches often offering creative and alternative methods of justice advocacy. Artistic, counter-archival, and documentary practices can provide more inclusive forums of communication, enabling activists and affected communities to challenge hegemonic narratives, preserve voices and memories, and produce alternative forms of evidence and testimony. Increasingly, human rights and transitional justice scholarship is considering the role of such alternative forms of activism, as well as whether they may themselves constitute forms of justice. This panel brings together researchers examining the mobilisation of artistic activism, solidarity networks, and counter-archival practices in the pursuit of justice, accountability, and the defence of human rights.
