Immigration, Populism, and the Radical Right

Abstract

This panel examines the relationship between immigration, populist radical right parties, political competition, and public attitudes. The papers explore how voters choose between competing radical right parties, how government participation shapes radical right approaches to welfare politics, and whether cultural backlash and social conservatism can explain radical right voting across European electorates. The panel also considers the consequences of radical right electoral success for immigrants’ political trust. Together, the papers examine both the drivers of radical right support and its broader political and social consequences.
