Abstract

Debates on the regulation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) have developed dynamically in recent years with the European Union’s Artificial Intelligence Act (= Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) as a cornerstone. The quickly growing practical relevance of AI in numerous use cases such as Large Language Models, facial recognition or deepfakes has further triggered these debates. The panel situates the EU AI Act in the broader context of regulatory and economic competition between Europe and other parts of the world. It also looks at the domestic impact of the newly emerging AI law in a multi-level context.
