Abstract

This panel discusses examples of conceptual and political contestations, while exploring the key discourses and concepts in democracies. It also asks, what are the key agencies and what is the role of different actors, when the constructions, deconstruction and reconstruction of the demos and democratic polities take place. It introduces topics such as the intersection of technology and concepts like citizenship and rights, the role of ecological crisis in renewing our contemporary social contract, and human-centricity. Researching contestations from the perspective the challenges of post truth politics, disinformation and protest, the panel opens up a debate on discourses, rhetoric and argumentation used to legitimise political views and values.
