Abstract

This panel will delve into the rise of post-truth politics and its profound implications for democracy, with a particular emphasis on the challenges posed by populism and conspiracism. We will explore the pivotal role of elites and politicians in shaping public discourse, examining how these actors spread conspiracy and denialist narratives and how it influences public opinion and undermines trust in democratic institutions. By analyzing several case studies , this panel aims to uncover the underlying mechanisms driving this phenomenon and provide a comprehensive understanding of the strategies employed by political actors and the broader consequences for democratic governance.
