The Standing Group on Citizenship is thrilled to present its Early Careers Lounge – a series of FREE virtual meet-ups for PhD students and early career scholars interested in citizenship, civic education, political participation, migration and other related topics. The series aims to create an inspiring space for regular exchange of ideas in an informal and supportive environment. In this session we will have the pleasure to host two wonderful speakers - Sophie Smit and Laura Chaudiron. Sophie is a doctoral student at the Centre for Democratic Futures at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. She conducts research within a EU Horizon project Gender Empowerment through Politics in Classrooms (G-EPIC). Lecture Topic: Good girls conform? Bad girls just want to win! Gender (non)conformity in classroom discussions. Sophie’s research focuses on possible barriers to participation from an intersectional perspective. Laura is a doctoral student in political science at University of Paris I: Panthéon-Sorbonne and the European Center of Sociology and Political Science. Lecture: Rebuilding Beirut to forge the Lebanese citizenship: Circulations of a civic role-model between NGOs agenda and local receptions Laura's research is focused on international aid and local aid networks at the heart of the Lebanese crisis.
