Abstract

This panel discusses the factors and social-political dynamics influencing public opinion, policies, and practices towards refugees and asylum seekers. It includes theoretical and empirical papers that focus mostly on European cases, a propos of the policy shifts of several EU members over the last decade, the Russian full-scale invasion, and the rise of far-right populism. This panel provides rich methodological insights into the study of refugees and asylum seekers, leading to the discussion of the democratic challenges that Europe and beyond face in regulating forced migration.
