Abstract

Despite the general separation of religion and state in liberal democracies, religious organisations still have contacts with state representatives. At the same time, they increasingly try to establish themselves as civil society organisations. This panel refers to the complicated role religious organisations of divergent denominations play as intermediate actors in different countries.
