Autonomy under complex interdependence II

Abstract

This panel is interested in the question of autonomy under complex interdependence with focus on specific issue-areas. The complex and highly differentiated EU will likely exhibit considerable differences across issue-areas in the nature and scope of autonomy not only for non-members but also for members. This is for instance reflected in the distinct category of ‘core state powers’. This panel includes contributions that compare and contrast the autonomy and wriggle-room (room for manoeuvre) available for members and non-members within a range of different issue-areas, such as development, defence and crisis management. The panel will provide new insights into the nature and significance of EU membership and the distinction between core state powers and other powers.
