Polarizing identities

Abstract

This panel will focus on the relationship between affective polarization and polarizing identities. Affective polarization refers to the emotional divide between individuals or groups with opposing political beliefs, while polarizing identities are identities that create strong social and political divides, such as race, religion, and political affiliation. Papers will discuss how identity politics contributes to affective polarization an how affective polarization and polarizing identities interact and reinforce each other. Overall, the panel will provide a valuable opportunity to explore the complex relationship between affective polarization and polarizing identities, and to identify strategies for promoting unity and understanding in an increasingly divided world.
