Papers in this panel approach political representation through a claim-making lens. They study the claim-making activities of political representatives and political parties and analyse how these actors justify their claims to speak on behalf of particular constituents, such as ethno-linguistic groups in divided societies and youth. In the context of the global Covid-19 pandemic, special attention is devoted to the claim-making activities of both governing and opposition parties and how they attribute meaning, throughout their claim-making activities, to the 'general interest'.
