Abstract

The aim of the panel is to discuss the institutionalized governance networks and the role of societal actors on the local level. Local government in Europe can take multiple forms and have different roles considering the differences in administrative, civic, and political cultures. Also, the variety of governance arrangements, the impact of decentralisation or consolidation processes are crucial in shaping the state-society relations as well as local practices between social, political, and economic actors. The papers shall be comparatively focusing on the issues of decisive power, authority and participation and quality of democracy, policies, and politics in the studied networks and differences of local state-society relations across the regional or country level. Theoretical considerations are also important to discuss the variety and typologies of institutionalized networks between local authorities and civic society.
