Abstract

The geography of academic knowledge production can be a useful instrument to understand which territories are considered central and peripherical to theory and policy dissemination. This panel explores the concept of geographies of knowledge regarding research on local government. The presence of local government studies in international academic journals can be interpreted through the lenses of an analytical framework that identifies centers and peripheries in the production of knowledge. Processes of deconcentration of scientific knowledge, which has been noted in some recent studies, can induce not only significative comparative developments, but also empirical diversity and theoretical enrichments. This panel may also look at career paths and publication strategies of scholars from academic institutions of various centrality. This panel will include papers that try to shed light on the discussion of the production of knowledge on local government.
