Abstract

Candidates and political leaders seem to be becoming increasingly important at the expense of political parties. This panel addresses how this personalization of candidates and leaders in the media affects political processes and political parties. The panel consists of papers that investigate the strategic use of social media by political candidates, whether and how this translates into coverage on different mass media platforms, as well as the consequence of personalized coverage for political actors.
