The General Conference academic programme seeks to provide a platform to share the latest thinking from all corners of the discipline, including comparative politics, public policy and public administration, political theory, international relations and European studies.
The programme is organised into thematic Sections and then Panels, with each Panel comprising Papers on a related research question. Alongside this sits the Open Section which accepts Panels and individual Papers that do not fit within the listed Sections. It also welcomes proposals of varying formats, including roundtable-style discussions, book presentations or critique sessions.
There is a two-stage process for submitting proposals:
The Academic Programme will be available on the ECPR website by early April 2025 and participants will be notified of the outcome of their proposal by the end of Feburary.
A full timetable will be published after mid-June 2025.
Both Section Chair and Co-Chair need a My ECPR profile. If you don’t already have one, it takes just a few clicks to create.
*We use keywords to categorise Sections, Panels and Papers, enabling users to search the online programme.
**3-10 for Section proposals endorsed by Standing Groups and Research Networks.
Formal Panel proposals should be submitted by Panel Chairs at the second stage of the application process.
All Section proposals must be submitted online in English, before 6 November 2024, midnight UK time.
It is assumed that all included Panels in the Section proposals are to be held in person at University of Thessaloniki. Section Chairs wishing to hold a fully virtual Section should contact our Events Team before the submission deadline.
Aspiring Section chairs should contact Steering Committee Chairs to seek such endorsement and must confirm the endorsement when submitting the online form.
Endorsed proposals are treated preferentially. Of two equal-quality proposals, priority is given to the one endorsed by a Standing Group or Research Network.
Academic Convenors will evaluate Section proposals based on the following criteria:
The preliminary allocation of Panels in each Section is determined by the Academic Convenors. This is subject to confirmation or change in light of the number of Panel/Paper proposals received before the final review in March 2025.
If you have not received notification by 14 November 2024, please get in touch with our Events Team. Queries regarding the academic content of the proposed Section should be addressed to the Academic Convenors via the Events Team before the proposal deadline.
NB: Subject to the number of quality submissions at the end of the proposal phase, Section Chairs may organise some of their Panels virtually.
To make a proposal, Panel Chairs/Co-Chairs, Discussants, Paper Presenters and Co-Authors must have a My ECPR profile. If you don’t already have one, it takes just a few clicks to create.
*We use keywords to categorise Panels (as well as Sections and Papers), enabling users to search the online programme.
From 5 December 2024
Section Chairs can view Panels and Papers being proposed to their Section via their My ECPR account.
From 7 January 2025
Section Chairs may approve/decline/reserve Panel and Paper proposals in their Section, Section Chairs have until 13 February 2025 to finalise their Sections via My ECPR.
Section Chairs are expected to:
From 17 February 2025
Academic Convenors will review approved Panels and Papers to finalise the Academic Programme. The deadline for the Academic Convenors to complete the review is 1 April 2025.
The Academic Convenors may use their discretion to reallocate Panels and Papers to other Sections and Panels as required. Section Chairs may, therefore, be asked to accommodate new Panels in their Sections, and Panel Chairs may be asked to accommodate extra Papers within their Panels. Similarly, Section Chairs may also be asked to reduce the number of the Panels and rearrange their Papers accordingly.
Approved Papers not submitted as part of a Panel will be allocated by the Section Chairs to an appropriate Panel. Alternatively, Section Chairs will form additional Panels from individual Papers on a similar subject.
Register and pay online before the registration deadline. Registration opens on 1 April 2025.
You'll need to upload your full Paper to the ECPR website via your My ECPR profile or email it to the Panel Chair, Discussant and fellow Paper givers before 15 July to give your fellow Panellists time to read it.
Email us immediately so we can rearrange Papers if necessary.
Email us to let us know they should be listed as Presenter.
We will contact you as soon as possible if a space becomes available in the programme. Unfortunately, it is not possible to determine when this will be.
Thanks to our two funding streams, you could get funded to attend our General Conference!
If your application is successful, you'll recieve a grant of up to £500 if you're attending an in-person Panel.
