Meet our host

Hana Kubátová is Assistant Professor at the Institute of Political Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University. Since 2018, she has headed up the Center for the Transdisciplinary Research of Violence, Trauma and Justice (VITRI). Hana is also a member of the ECPR Executive Committee.

Hana held research positions at Tel Aviv University, Slovak Academy of Sciences, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and the Institute of Advanced Study at CEU. She has been the recipient of numerous fellowships, including the Marie Curie Fellowship for Early Research Training, Charles H. Revson Foundation Fellowship, Felix Posen Fellowship, Gisela Fleischmann Scholarship, and more recently, the Junior Core Fellowship from the Institute of Advanced Study, CEU.

Her research interests include majority-minority relations, identity relations, and microdynamics of (ethnic) violence.

Gabriela Baranyaiová is Head of Administration at the Institute of Political Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University. She is also a lecturer at the institute, teaching classes on the Spanish and Catalan party systems and the Catalan autonomy system.

Gabriela studied political science at both Palacký University in Olomouc and Charles University. During the course of her studies, she has been an exchange student at Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Universitat de Barcelona.

She previously co-organised numerous conferences and served on several organising committees, including Forum 2000 – a joint initiative of the late Czech President Václav Havel, Japanese philanthropist Yohei Sasakawa, and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Elie Wiesel, as well as one of the conferences held as part of the National Model United Nations.

Petr Jüptner is Director of the Institute of Political Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University. Together with Hana Kubátová, Petr was a member of the local organising committee for the ECPR General Conference 2016.

Petr's research interests involve local politics, especially the question of direct mayor elections. He was the researcher-in-charge for numerous projects, including 'Europeanization of Czech Local Politics. Political Science Analysis of European Legislative Trends', 'Instruments for Amalgamation of Fragmented Local Governments' and 'Direct Election of Mayors. Analysis of Experiences and Practice across European countries: References for Czech Republic'.

Petr taught at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, Poland, University of Potsdam, Germany, Université Paris 1, Panthéon Sorbonne, France, National Ostroh Academy, Ukraine, and the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration Bucharest, Romania.

His works appeared in journals including Public Policy and Administration, NISPAcee Journal of Public Administration and Policy, and Gestion y Politica Publica.

David Jágr is a PhD student of political science at the Institute of Political Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, currently completing his dissertation. In his research and teaching, David focuses on parliamentary representation, political expertise, and Czech politics.

David published in journals including The Journal of Legislative Studies and Zeitschrift für Parlamentsfragen. He is a member of research projects funded by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic and run as part of the National Institute for Research on the Socioeconomic Impact of Diseases and Systemic Risks. David is also taking part in the international research project Parliaments in the Pandemic.

David has enhanced his organising skills through his work with media, parliament, and election campaigns. He looks forward to applying these experiences in his role as a member of the local organising committee for the 2023 General Conference.

Tereza Čeladníková is a graduate student of political science at the Institute of Political Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University. She holds a bachelor's degree in political science and public policy. Tereza is mainly interested in municipal politics and submunicipal democracy in the Czech Republic.

Tereza has been involved in student activities since the beginning of her studies. She was the vice president of the Political Science Club, the student association of the Institute of Political Studies. She currently serves as the Student Ambassador for the Faculty of Social Sciences and helps with the integration of new students into life at the faculty. She has also been involved in teaching practical seminars and has participated in several research projects.

Jakub Čapek is a PhD student of political science at the Institute of Political Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University. He has completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at Charles University. His research interests include small municipalities, mayors and their position in multi-level governance, municipal elections, and their results.

Jakub's PhD advisor is Petr Jüptner and they work closely together in preparing for the 2023 General Conference in Prague. As a member of the local organising team, he is primarily responsible for communication with the City of Prague, but also with other University faculties whose premises will be used for the conference.
