With direct connections from Belgrade, Bucharest, Budapest, Paris and Vienna to Sofia Central Station, it may be cheaper to travel by train than to fly. Visit The Trainline for tickets and prices. Book at least a week before you travel.
A cheaper alternative to rail, particularly if you buy advance tickets. Sofia enjoys direct bus connections to 14 cities; find out more at FlixBus.
We recommend you park in a paid, guarded lot. Parking in the centre is difficult, and if you do find a free space, the Bulgarian police tend to behave harshly towards foreign license plates. Driving to or from the country you must have a vignette on every highway, or you risk a fine of 200 BGN (€100). Buy vignettes at the border or at any fuel station, and display them in the bottom right corner of your windscreen.
