Deliberative Process and Chinese Feminism

Over the past few decades, benefiting from the system of deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) of China, democracy in China has changed considerably by opening up space for communication between the Government and the people to obtain common ground between the Government and the public. However, due to the social status gap between men and women, Chinese women have not been able to participate in politics in a just way, and the number of female representatives participating in politics is very limited. This article aims to recognise the significant role that deliberative democracy has played in China's political activity, and to explore how Chinese feminism can be better represented in the pursuit of social justice. The paper argues that women's voices are very important to Chinese society and should be given more attention in the deliberative process. At the same time, diversity of opinion should be recognised by society as it enhances the effectiveness of social decision-making. In the deliberation process, women from different classes and different cultural backgrounds should be included in order to better convey the actual needs of different groups of women. By making the review process more detailed and open, women's groups are urged to advocate for greater social inclusion, while their needs are better secured in terms of institutional and material conditions.
