View proposal guidelinesThe Joint Sessions of Workshops is a unique platform for political science scholars worldwide to come together for several days of intense discussion, feedback and collaboration.
The ECPR Joint Sessions of Workshops bring together political scientists with shared interests to develop their research in an intimate, focused setting.
This unique, closed-group format facilitates intensive discussions, deep collaboration, and rigorous peer feedback. By offering a trusted global platform to refine ideas, the Joint Sessions play a vital role in building networks and supporting the publication of high-impact work.
Each Workshop is a closed forum accommodating 15–20 Papers over several days. Each participant presents their Paper which is then thoroughly reviewed and discussed by the group.
Join us in Trieste for an unmissable gathering that continues to drive the advancement of political science across Europe!
Participants may attend only one Workshop and must fully participate in all its sessions.

Bring together scholars working on a shared research question for four days of focused discussion, collaboration, and research development.
We welcome proposals on original and significant topics across all areas of political science, including comparative politics, public policy and public administration, political theory, international relations and European studies.
As a Workshop Director or Co-Director, you will shape the programme, select the Papers, and guide discussion throughout the event.
All Workshops will be held in person at the University of Trieste. This event does not support the hybrid format.
Scholars who served as a Workshop Director or Co-Director in 2025 or 2026 are not eligible to hold either role in 2027.
Registration opens in March 2027.
Only those with an approved Paper will be invited to register and pay through our online system. All participants and co-authors wishing to join must register to attend.
All participants must pay a fee. Your space is not secured until your registration is paid in full.
Please note that this event does not support hybrid participation.
Applications are accepted from 1 February until 17 February 2027, midnight UK time.
You could get funded to attend our Joint Sessions of Workshops with the support of our dedicated funding stream.
Open to PhD students and early career scholars from ECPR Full Member Institutions.
If successful, you will receive full fee waiver and up to £500 towards travel and accommodation costs.
All participants must register to attend. However, please do not register until you have heard about the outcome of your application.
Please note:
The Rudolf Wildenmann Prize is awarded annually to a scholar (before PhD or within five years of receiving their PhD) in recognition of an outstanding Paper presented at the Joint Sessions of Workshops. This can be a co-authored Paper, under certain circumstances. The award for this prize is £900.
Nomination information will be sent directly to Workshop Directors who will be invited to nominate ONE Paper from their Workshop for this prize.
